about
The title track off our record Radio Sky holds many memories of my childhood as a daughter of a traveling preacher man. There are traces of hymns, sermons, tube radios, vinyl, station wagons, and layers of dust-covered dreams throughout.
Radio Sky was recorded in our little analog studio, Little Pig Little Witch. We laid most of the tracks down in the summer of 2010, and added extra love later that winter when 2010 spilled into 2011. The songs are layered with the sweet scents of summer in the NW, along with the stark, grey-lit days of winter.
lyrics
Radio sky
You leave a disaster falling faster than you’ve ever dreamed,
Your family crashes, carry their ashes, this can’t be what it seems.
this can’t be what it seems.
Night falls quickly, I pretend I’m sleeping and I watch the sky.
Songs come sweetly, radio playing through a 70’s night, 70’s night.
Daddy’s speeding, leading his children right through the dark.
Mama’s singing, silently praying, she can’t see where we are, she can’t see where we are.
In the back seat dreaming, sounds of the radio softly playing through a 70’s night, 70’s night, family in flight.
Becky says ‘pretend he’s Moses, you be Miriam, I’ll be the Queen’
We send our brother floating down…
Flash floods, flashbacks, dark mud, we make a mess and huddle ‘round dad’s radio and records.
70’s night, family in flight, floats right through the night
a radio sky, radio sky, radio sky.
Gathering raw energy like lightning rods in an electrical storm, the music of Willow & Wood is a kind of folk-noir that's as
eerie as it is soothing.
"Willow & Wood are a hypnotic duo that get high marks for the melodic sensibilities, melancholy notes, and genuine folk Americana style. Imagery that gets under your skin. “Kindling For a Fire” is wickedly haunting and beautiful beyond description”...more
